Naples to the Amalfi Coast road trip
≈ 120 km · ~4 h driving · ideal in 6 days · 5 stops
Barely a hundred kilometres, and none of them fast: the SS163 clings to cliffs between lemon terraces and the sea, past towns that look poured down the rock. Short on distance, enormous on scenery.

The stops
- 1
Naples
Pizza where it was invented, the chaotic glory of Spaccanapoli, and Pompeii twenty minutes down the autostrada.
- 2
Sorrento
Cliff-top limoncello town with the easiest parking of the coast — and boats to Capri if the sea is flat.
- 3
Positano
The vertical postcard. Arrive before nine or after five; in between, admire it from the Path of the Gods above.
- 4
Amalfi
Once a maritime republic to rival Venice — the striped cathedral and paper museum tell the story.
- 5
Ravello
Three hundred metres above the sea, Villa Rufolo's terrace is the coast's single best view. Concerts on it all summer.
Good to know
The coast road is banned to through campervans in summer and tight for any car — many visitors park in Sorrento or Salerno and use the SITA buses and ferries for day hops. Easter–June and September are the sweet spots. Pompeii sits right on the route in — allow half a day.
